2023/10/7 民族コレクション「ブリコラージュ展」のご案内
文化人類学研究者の山口吉彦さんが所有する貴重な民族コレクションから壊れたパーツを譲り受け、新たな作品へと昇華させていく「ブリコラージュ展」。3回目となる今年は、20組の作り手とともに開催します。
各地の少数民族と生活を共にしながら山口さんが自ら収集した工芸品や生物たち。2万点以上に及ぶ膨大なコレクションの中には保存の過程で壊れたものも多く、それをアーティストの感性で生まれ変わらせる展覧会です。
今回、参加アーティストたちが選んだパーツは土器や土偶、少数民族の衣装、ココア攪拌棒、蝶の羽、動物の骨など生命や物語を感じさせる多様なものたち。
神秘に満ちた大自然の中で育まれたこれらのものから、
今を生きる私たちは何を受け取れるのか⸺
10/10(火)にスタートする「TRACING THE ROOTS」にて創造性に満ちた作品の数々をご覧いただけたら幸いです。

山口吉彦（文化人類学研究者）
1942年山形県鶴岡市生まれ。1967年頃からフィールドワークを始め、アジアやアフリカなど85ヵ国をまわる。1971年からアマゾン流域の調査を開始。帰国後、地元鶴岡市で国際理解と交流促進に尽力し、アマゾン民族館の館長を務めた。2005年には鶴岡市市政功労者表彰を受ける。一般社団法人アマゾン資料館顧問。
昆虫好きの少年が最初に憧れたのは、アマゾンの森の巨大なカブトムシや輝く青いモルフォ蝶のいる”昆虫王国”でした。その後、フランス留学中にレヴィ・ストロースのフィールドワークに魅了された氏は、アマゾンに住む先住民の生活や文化にも深い興味を持ち、夢をさらに膨らませ、40年以上にわたり、アマゾンの自然と文化、その調和に関する調査・研究・資料収集を行っています。

A valuable ethnic collection owned by Mr. Yoshihiko Yamaguchi, a cultural anthropologist. The “Bricolage” Exhibition takes broken parts from this collection and sublimates them into new works of art by 20 artists.
Mr. Yamaguchi personally collected artifacts and living creatures while living with ethnic minorities in various regions.
Among his vast collection of more than 20,000 items, some were broken in the process of preservation, and the artists’ sensibilities will reincarnate them.
The parts selected by the participating artists include earthenware vessels, clay figures, ethnic minority costumes, cocoa stirrers, butterfly wings, animal bones, and many other objects that evoke life and stories.
What can we, who live in the present, receive from these objects nurtured in the mysterious wilderness?
We hope you will enjoy seeing the works filled with creativity at TRACING THE ROOTS which starts on Tuesday, October 10.
＊Bricolage is the act of creating with one’s own hands, using tools and materials that already exist.
＊All works will be sold, and a portion of the proceeds will be used to maintain and preserve the collection of the General incorporated association Amazon Museum.

Yoshihiko Yamaguchi (Cultural Anthropology Researcher)
Born in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture in 1942.Started his fieldwork around 1967, traveling to 85 countries in Asia and Africa, and began research in the Amazon basin in 1971. After returning to Japan, he devoted himself to promoting international understanding and exchange in his hometown ,Tsuruoka City, and served as the director of the Amazon Museum of Ethnology. In 2005, he received the Tsuruoka City Government Meritorious Service Award. Currently, he is an advisor to the General incorporated association Amazon Museum.
As a young boy who loved insects, his first dream was to visit the “Insect Kingdom” of the Amazon forest with its giant beetles and shining blue Morpho butterflies. While studying in France, he was fascinated by the fieldwork of Levi Strauss and became deeply interested in the life and culture of the indigenous people living in the Amazon. His dream has since grown, and for more than 40 years he has been researching, studying, and collecting materials related to the harmony of nature and culture in the Amazon.
